Convenience store burglarized, over $2,000 in cash stolen

web posted February 22, 2007

COUNTY – The owner of J&L’s Convenience store on Highway 25 arrived Wednesday morning to find the store had been burglarized during the night. Sheriff’s Deputies and an Investigator arrived just after 8 am and found a side door had been ripped from the building to gain entry. It is possible that the perpetrator(s) may have used a vehicle and a chain to pull the frame and door away from the building.

Missing from the store was the cash register and two large cigar boxes containing an estimated $2,000 in quarters. There was money in the cash register but the amount was not available.

Rain over the night washed away any tire or footprints that may have been left behind. Evidence was collected but not released due to the early investigation. The time of the burglary is thought to be between 1 am and 4 am Wednesday.

The power meter was disabled to circumvent the alarm system.

The case is currently under investigation by the Investigative Division of the Sheriff’s Office.
