Clemson Extension offers 4-H FACE Program
By:
Stephen Pohlman, Edgefield Extension Agent
web
posted March 5, 2008
COUNTY – FACE (Food And Cover
Establishment for wildlife) is a Program for youth between the ages of
5 and 19 who are interested in planting a wildlife food plot and
habitat improvement on land that they have access to. Youth
enrolled in the FACE Program will be given a 5lb bag of wildlife food
plot seed to which they must plant one plot. They are encouraged
to take detailed records of their plots including planting,
fertilization, wildlife observations, and other aspects of
conservation.
The 5-8 year olds will need to complete the 4-H FACE Record Sheet
(which will be given to them). All participants who complete a
Record Sheet in this group and turn it in on time will receive a
Participation Ribbon and a Certificate.
Those between the ages of 9 through 19 (9-13 in one class and 14-19 in
another) will have the opportunity to turn in either a Record Sheet or
a Record Book. Once again all Record Sheets will be awarded a
Participation Ribbon and a Certificate. Those opting to complete
a Record Book will have the opportunity to have their plots judged
along with their Record Books.
Awards for the Record Book winners will be on the County, Regional, and
State levels. This program is sponsored by Clemson Extension,
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Quail Unlimited.
Registration for the FACE Program has begun. The deadline is
April 1, 2007 for sign-up and the cost will be $5/youth which will be
used to offset the cost of the seed and awards. Those interested
in registering or for more information need to contact the Edgefield
Clemson Extension Office at (803) 637-3161.
