Former United Way of Edgefield County Chairman Recognized
web
posted March 9, 2009
COUNTY – Bob Welsh, former Chairman of the
United Way of Edgefield County, has been recognized by the local United
Way Board of Directors for lifetime of outstanding service to the
community.
Welsh, who was instrumental in the founding of the local United Way
more than 25 years ago and was its first Chairman, is now
retired. The Board recognized his vision and guidance that has
helped bring the local United Way where it is today.
The plaque, presented by current Chairman Dean Campbell and Co-Chairman
Ken Durham (also a past Chairman), reads: Thank you for your vision and
commitment to the United Way of Edgefield County by the Board of
Directors, March 2009.
“Bob’s never-quit attitude and devotion to helping others in our
community is exemplary,” Campbell said. “He worked diligently to
establish a local United Way organization that continues to provide
assistance to many less fortunate and those in need.”
The Edgefield County United Way is operated by a Board of volunteers
and has almost no administrative cost, so money donated by citizens can
go directly to programs supported.
Some of the local programs supported by the United Way of Edgefield
County include Edgefield County Churches Helping Others, Women in
Unity, American Red Cross of Edgefield County, Edgefield County Senior
Citizens Center, Johnston Food Bank, Cumbee Center for Abused Persons,
local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Helping Hands, Edgefield County First
Steps, and MEG’s Shelter for Abused Women. The local United Way
also sponsors the Edgefield County 211 Help Line.
