As rain falls Friday crash numbers rise

web posted March 13, 2010              Below: Martintown Rd  5:50 pm
COUNTY – Rain slick roads left one woman injured after a rear-end collision on Martintown Road just inside the county line Friday afternoon during rush hour. Traffic began to back up in both lanes east and west as the Merriwether Fire Department and First Responders worked to treat the woman in her Mazda Miata while she was guarded by a very agitated medium sized dog.

The collision took place Friday afternoon just after 5 as heavy rains were falling. The woman had slowed or stopped when she was struck from behind by a Heavy Duty pickup truck hauling a trailer.

The woman complained of back and neck pain as rescuers tried to calm to dog who was “snapping” at first responders as they tried to treat the woman. Eventually with the use of heavy gloved and coaxing by a friend of the woman, the dog was able to have it’s mouth taped shut and removed from the car allowing rescuers to immobilized the woman and extricate her from the car.

She was loaded into and awaiting ambulance and transported to MCG for treatment.

The crash closed one lane of Martintown Road for over an hour until the scene could be cleared. The driver of the truck and a passenger were uninjured.

The truck suffered on minor damage; however, the Mazda received moderate damage to the rear section of the car. It was towed from the scene.

Within an hour, another crash on Rock Creek Road was reported involving two vehicles with no injuries.

Another collision was reported on Highway 121 in Trenton around 9 pm which also had no injuries.
