Update on Editor's Condition

web posted March 29, 2014

COUNTY Upon reader request, the following is an update on my condition and current recovery from a month long malady, who's origins remain unknown at this time, and how it continues to affect my schedule with Edgefield Daily. The simple good news is I continue to improve.

After being released from hospitalization on March 11 I have been under the constant care of an incredible Infectious Disease Specialist in Aiken, who has made great strides in my healing in the past two and a half weeks.

I am walking without assistance and have been working partial days for the past ten days. Even when working I have to take breaks while I continue to rebuilt my strength due to significant weight loss during my illness.

Both legs and feet have returned to normal size with only minor swelling reoccurring for a day or so at a time. There is still considerable pain associated with my progress, localized mainly in my feet, which hampers just how much mobility I have and how much work I am able to do each day.

The good news is my condition is greatly improved and is progressing nicely. I hope that in the coming weeks I can return to my full role as Editor, including on scene reporting and investigative reporting. To some extent I already have as will be evidenced in our Monday Headlines.

I would be remiss to overlook others responsible for my recovery that include Dr. Tami Massey, Dr. George Rainsford, the nurses and staff at Edgefield County Hospital as well as Dr. Gordon in Aiken. I will only state, at this time, the five days I spent at the Infectious Disease Center at University Hospital as a nightmare that I will not get over for quite some time, physically and mentally.

Most importantly I give the majority of credit to answered prayers from thousands of readers, friends and family who have, and continue, to pray for my return to health. God is good and He does answer pray - I am living proof.

I thank you all for the continued calls, emails, letters and cards wishing me well. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support.
