Sheriff's Office Warns of Possible Verizon Credit Card Scam

web posted April 5, 2014

COUNTY – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a possible scam involving Verizon Wireless customers. Some Verizon Wireless customers have reported they have received calls from an unfamiliar number containing a recording stating there has been a breach in the customers MasterCard account and instructs the customer to press #1. This is all the information the Sheriff's Office have at this time.

Remember to always be cautious of unfamiliar numbers. If you have concerns about an phone call referencing your account, DO NOT provide any personal information, such as social security number, date of birth, or credit / debit card number. If the call references your credit / debit card account, call the number on the back of your card to verify the inquiry.

Verizon customers should contact customer service by calling *611 on your cell phone or by calling 800-922-0204 if you have questions about billing requests.
