Stolen vehicles discovered wrecked, involved in police chase

web posted April 21, 2009
COUNTY – A North Augusta woman called the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday to report her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier stolen from her home “sometime” between Easter Sunday and April 19. The keys to the car were left over the sun visor at a Stephens Road home and the woman told the deputy that she had no idea who could have stolen her car, incident reports state.

After the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputy took the report a check confirmed that Richmond County authorities had the car impounded after the chase on April 17. It is unknown if anyone was apprehended as a result of the chase at this time.

Edgefield authorities have placed a “hold” on the car until their investigation has been completed in the case. A copy of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report on the car chase was unable to be obtained at this writing.

Edgefield Police are also investigating a stolen vehicle report in which the owner stated he arrived at his Butler Street home around midnight on April 12 after “he had been in the country partying” and left his 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe running in his driveway as he went inside to get some money to go buy some drinks at a local store. When he came back outside the SUV was missing, incident reports show.

While gathering information, the officer was notified by the Sheriff’s Office that the Tahoe was found overturned on Kemp Road with major damage resulting from the crash. The owner arrived at the scene of the crash afterwards, less than a mile from his home, reports state, and retrieve personal property from the wrecked SUV.

Both cases are currently under investigation by the respective agencies.
