Thefts account for almost $5,000 in property losses this week
web
posted April 29, 2010
COUNTY – In addition to recent burglaries
and an armed robbery, overlooked sometimes are the lesser thefts that
still add up to considerable loss to the victims. Since Saturday, other
thefts accounted for thousands of dollars of property being stolen,
with a majority coming from the southern part of the county.
On Tuesday a Carrie Lane woman reported someone entered her home
sometime during the day between 8 am and 8 pm and stole an X-Box gaming
system, valued at $300. According to incident reports, no forced entry
could be found at the home.
Several thefts in the Merriwether area were also reported on Monday and
Tuesday including a report of cash and jewelry being taken from a home
on Big Oak Drive, just off Sweetwater Road. There were no indications
of forced entry to the home, according to reports. In all the items
were valued at $300.
A Briggs Haven Circle man reported he awoke early Tuesday morning to
find his 1984 Ford Tempo missing from his driveway. The car has a SC
tag bearing the plate number FUV-333. The man claimed, reports state,
someone had to enter his home and take the keys to the car from his
pants pocket while he was sleeping as they too were missing.
A North Augusta man reported that three large air conditioning (HVAC)
units and an antique “horse drawn weeder” were stolen from his property
on Nassau Pass on Tuesday. The antique weeder was said to be “rusty”
and was about 7 feet in width. The HVAC units were all 3-ton units and
included a “gas pack heater air conditioner combo” unit. Total value
was estimated to be at least $1,100.
Monday afternoon a Mealing Drive man reported someone had stolen a
pressure washer he borrowed from a neighbor. The 3500 PSI pressure
washer had a 13 HP Honda engine and a silver rolling frame, and yellow
hose. It was reportedly stolen from a storage area behind the Mealing
Drive home. It was valued at $1,800.
Additional reports include other stolen vehicles and two auto break-ins
on the 200 block of Murrah Road, in which Edgefield Sheriff’s
Investigators have been able to recover two car stereos stolen from
homes nearby. No arrests have been made according to records checks.
The stereos were reportedly valued at $250 each.
If you have information pertaining to any of these crimes please call
the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625.
