Fishing Rodeo set for May 12 web posted May 4, 2007 COUNTY – The annual Jimmy Shay Memorial Youth Fishing Rodeo will be held next Saturday, May 12, at Lick Fork Lake off of Martintown Road (Hyw 230) from 9 am until 1 pm. The event is organized by the Edgefield County Law Officers Association and is sponsored by the Merriwether Fire Department, U.S. Forestry Service, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and several corporate and individual donations. Children aged twelve years or younger and their families will be supplied with free bait and tackle as well as give-aways during the event. The theme of the event is “Get hooked on fishing, not on drugs”. Lunch will also be served at no cost to children or their families. The very popular event grows in attendance each year drawing participants from the entire CSRA as well as Edgefield County. The event is in memory of long-time law enforcement officer Jimmy Shay. Organizers said, “We want all families who attend to have a lot of fun but safety issues will be strictly enforced.” Representatives from the SCDNR and local law enforcement agencies will be on hand in addition to fire trucks from the Merriwether Fire Department and First Responders and EMS personnel.
