Former Edgefield County resident to have film short featured at Cannes
Film Festival
web
posted May 12, 2010
LONDON – Matthew Lindsey, a former
Edgefield County resident, directed and produced a short film that has
been accepted into this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Festival, one
of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals, is held each
year in May in the resort town of Cannes in the south of France along
the French Riviera. Cannes is a privileged meeting place for
international professionals and representatives in the film industry.
The film, The Ballad of Mulla and Mullins, written by the talented
British screenwriter
Jason Wing stars actor Allan Ford, best known for his roles in Lock,
Stock and Two
Smoking Barrels and Snatch. In addition to directing and producing,
Lindsey plays the role of Mulla in the film. Gareth Munden, known for
still photography in two Harry Potter films, is the Director of
Photography on the project.
The film is a journey through the soul of a hit man with a mind
teetering on psychosis that brings a genuine empathy for the humanity
of a killer. The coming-of-age story chronicles the lives of two boys
growing up in 1930ʼs London to become gang lords, only to have their
lives end bittersweet.
The film will make its world premier at the Cannes Short Film Corner,
an industry-recognized rendezvous for filmmakers.
Lindsey, a former Edgefield County resident, graduated from Georgia
Tech with a BS in Computer Science. He now resides in London, England
where he is a Program Manager in Expedia’s London office. This week,
Cannes accredited Director; Lindsey will be in attendance at the
Festival with his cast members for the Film’s premier.
