More burglaries, thefts reported

web posted May 22, 2008
COUNTY – The workload for Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigators continues to grow this week with two burglaries, the theft of two vehicles, and a theft from the Edgefield County School District shop on Wednesday morning.

The two burglaries were both reported on Monday. The first was on the 200 block of Berry Farm Road when the homeowner reported missing her wallet, a “piggy bank in the shape of the Tasmanian Devil” that contained between $400 to $500, as well as rare coins and several $2 bills.

The total value of the items missing was estimated at $800.

The second burglary was reported on the 500 block of Frances Drive when the homeowner discovered someone had entered the home and made off with a pistol, jewelry, and $200 in cash.

The items reported stolen were two $100 bills, a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber chrome pistol with brown wood handles with the initials “JAL” underneath, a size 10 4mm gold wedding band that was bent, a size 10 titanium wedding band, and a pewter diamond shaped tie tack with a diamond in the center.

The estimated value of the property was listed as $1,300.

A third theft was discovered Wednesday morning as School District employees arrived at the shop on Rolling Avenue in Johnston and found someone had cut the fence and made entry into one of the work trucks and stole an assortment of tools.

Due to the early stages of the most recent theft a full accounting of the value of the tools taken was not available. Investigators said it could rise to a grand larceny, which is a value of over $1,000. It was also noted that the last incident was considered a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and not a burglary, regardless of the value of the items taken.

Among the additional cases added this week were the theft of a 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250 ATV taken from the 100 block of Greenhouse Road in Trenton and a 1967 Ford pickup truck stolen from the 200 block of Long Cane Road.

All cases are currently in the hands of the Sheriff’s Investigative Division for follow up.
