Counterfeit $100 bills continue to be reported

web posted May 29, 2009
MCCORMICK – Still more counterfeit $100 bills are turning up in the area with two men entering Bussey’s Store on Highway 28 in Modoc trying to pass one of the bills on Tuesday. The men, described as a white male and a black male with dreadlocks, entered the store and presented the fake bill around 5 pm. When the clerk told the men the bill was fake they took the bill and fled.

Once source close to the incident who wanted to remain unnamed stated that the men were at the store earlier in the day and passed a fake bill with another clerk. “She checked his ID because he was buying cigarettes and she said his name was Christopher”.

The McCormick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and EdgefieldDaily.com was unable to obtain a copy of the incident report at this writing.

Edgefield Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said they are actively investigating the recent incidents in Edgefield County. One incident resulted in Keith Bert Brand, 24, and Khristopher M. Morgan, 21 being arrested last Thursday after a black male and white male were reported trying to pass a fake $100 at two local stores on Highway 25. Both men were released on bond from the Edgefield County Detention Center by Monday afternoon.

Repeated requests for booking photos at the Edgefield County Detention Center were unsuccessful.

Merchants are advised to take a closer look at $100 bills being presented at their place of business and should call their local law enforcement agency if they suspect a counterfeit bill is being presented.
