Break-ins and burglaries
web
posted June 28, 2008
COUNTY – Edgefield and Johnston Police as
well as the Sheriff’s Office are working several break-ins and
burglaries this week. The most recent in the Town of Edgefield when a
Beaverdam Street man was awoken Thursday night to the sound of a loud
crashing sound just after 11 pm. When the owner went to investigate one
man ran out of the house and the second engaged the owner in
conversation before fleeing.
When police arrived they observed half of a brick that was used to
break open a glass window in the door to gain entry into the home. The
owner said he normally would have been at work and recognized one of
the two men. Nothing was taken from the home. The case has been turned
over for investigations and the owner said he wanted to press charges
in the matter. Both suspects in the case were said to be black males.
Earlier Thursday morning a Merriwether woman called to report
witnessing a white male, possibly in his 20’s, climbing from a window
of a house on the 200 block of Murrah Road. The man then got into a
gold “newer model Chevy truck bearing a South Carolina license plate
with “two long tool boxes” on the bed and left towards Murrah Road and
then turned back towards Martintown Road. The house is uninhabited and
nothing appeared to be missing.
Two suspects in a break-in at the Budget Inn on Lee Street in Johnston
on Tuesday were able to kick in a door to a utility room and made their
way into the office taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Two suspects
have been identified and a witness has also given statements to police.
The case is currently under further investigation.
Tuesday also saw a Trenton woman calling to report finding the door to
her Courtney Road home and found the back door open. A Sheriff’s Deputy
arrived and cleared the home and found no one inside. The only thing
that appeared to be missing was a 2-liter Pepsi, reports stated.
