Edgefield Daily.com raises the ire of some
officials Edgefielddaily.com web posted June 27, 2005 Edgefield Daily.com has received calls and e-mails that certain individuals in our county government are not very pleased with some of the information Edgefield Daily.com presents. That is understandable since those in public office often like to shield themselves from public attention for actions they take in public office. One stated subjects covered in the free online book, "The Puzzle," are “too personal” for publication. We disagree. Events covered in the book are verified, witnessed, and are public record or public knowledge and involve public officials acting in their official capacity or events at public buildings. The events covered in the book are relating to politics in Edgefield County, public figures, their actions, and events that have taken place pertaining to those elected, appointed, and hired by the county. The First Amendment is a wonderful thing and sometimes government or those in government do not like that. Edgefield Daily.com will never shy away from the subjects that media deems too “sensitive.” We firmly believe that information is free and should always be available for anyone seeking that information and that all the possible information should be provided including rumors in hopes of dismissing false information that gets circulated. The online book is just that, an online book of events that have taken place in Edgefield County, the rumors and facts surrounding those events and those involved, quotes from people involved or witnesses, and personal knowledge of the writer. As is the case with any book, it is the belief of the author on the events written about. Another said the book seemed to be directed at one individual. The saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover”, holds true in this case. Do not judge the book until you have read the entire book. So far Edgefield Daily.com has only posted five of over twenty-seven chapters and more are being written. Some of the information in the book will span decades into the past. It will cover the living and the deceased. It contains good things, bad things, funny things, and even very serious things. So is the nature of information. Edgefield Daily.com would also like to remind readers that any reader is free to submit articles, opinions or other such content to the site for publication. Edgefield Daily.com is here to serve the people of Edgefield County and will always strive to make access to the site and its content a fair and accurate rendition of the information provided to us and all for free.
