Landlord Reports Strange Man Inside Vacant Rental Home

web posted July 15, 2014

COUNTY An Aiken woman checking on rental property she owns in Edgefield County called the Sheriff's Office after riding by the vacant property and seeing a car in the driveway. When she went to investigate she saw a man sitting in a chair inside the home and made the report.

An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy arrived a short time later and observed a man sitting in a recliner inside the home. The man opened the door and met with the deputy who inquired why he was in the home. The 29-year-old Tennessee man, identified as Harrison Hicks, said he just arrived and was there to visit his father. The man told the deputy that he used a credit card to gain entry into the home.

As the investigation continued it was discovered that Hicks' father had moved out of the home and completed a walk-through with the owner on Friday.

The owner reported nothing missing from the home and Hicks was given a summons for trespassing and was allowed to gather his belongings and leave the scene.

The location of the home was not provided in an incident report released on Monday.
