Unaccounted concession stand sales at Bettis Park for 2008 could reach
beyond $19,000
web
posted July 17, 2009
COUNTY – More information has been made
available for the Edgefield County Recreation Department and the
concession stand at Bettis Park. According to the Edgefield County
Administration Office, the county stopped receiving revenues from the
Bettis Park concession stand at the end of fiscal year 2006. Total
revenues for 2006 (football games only) were accounted at $9,494 and
$9,901.74 in 2005.
Edgefield County Finance Director Lynn Strom, who prepared the
requested information from the county, stated in her reply, “No
receipts or expenditures after FY 05-06 due to the fact concessions
were turned over to the leagues.”
Though the leagues are said to be running the concession stand, the
only two people who have keys to the concession stand are stated as
County Recreation Director Nick Wates and Debra Bartley with the Mt.
Canaan Baptist Association. Who is actually operating the concession
stand at Bettis Park has yet to be confirmed.
The money generated by the operation of the stand has been confirmed as
to not being delivered to Edgefield County, according to the
information released.
By the numbers
Football participation for last year listed 334 players that accounted
for $20,092 in registration fees, roughly $60 per registered player.
There were a total of 49 individual games played (football only) at the
Bettis Park on 19 dates between
September 29, 2008 and November 19, 2008.
Gate fees ($1 admission to the games - Football only) were shown to be
$7,010 in the 2008 season. The previous year gate fees were $4,360. The
marked increase in the 2008 numbers was said to be due to the
tournament between Edgefield County and the City of North Augusta
football teams (host field will rotate between the two locations each
year).
The near doubling of attendance at Bettis Park for football games only,
would also indicate that the revenues at the concession stand should
increase respectively for those games (not counting baseball, softball,
and soccer). With the last figures available of recorded revenues from
the concession stand averaging $9,700 a year for Bettis Park football
games, obtaining $19,400 in revenue for 2008 games is easily possible
with no oversight by the county.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
