 Burton Center Foundation: Helping People with Special Needs web posted July 17, 2009 COUNTY – Mary Margaret Jackson, Chairperson of the Burton Center Foundation, has announced the kick off of the Foundation's Annual Campaign. "The Annual Campaign provides assistance to people with lifelong disabilities and special needs. This year Burton Center has experienced over half a million in funding cuts. Services have been reduced, staff positions eliminated and there continues to be a tremendous waiting list for services. Your help is needed now more than ever," stated Jackson. Burton Center provides services for people with autism, intellectual disabilities, head injuries, spinal cord injuries and related disabilities. Burton Center currently serves: # of People County 160 Abbeville 102 Edgefield 466 Greenwood 44 Laurens 82 Lexington 64 McCormick 112 Saluda Total: 1,030 Dr. Charlie Bobo and Felton Burton will serve as co-chairs of the Foundation's annual campaign. Dr. Bobo, an Ophthalmologist, retired from Greenwood Eye Clinic in 2008 and has served Burton Center Foundation Board for over 16 years. Felton Burton, Executive Director Emeritus of Burton Center, has devoted over 50 years of service on behalf of people with special needs. "We look forward to Charlie and Felton's continued leadership as we work toward our goal of providing hope and essential services that will help these families," stated Jackson.
