DOT truck burns at compound Edgefielddaily.com web posted July 26, 2005 EDGEFIELD - A report of a vehicle fire at the South Carolina Department of Transportation compound on Highway 25 was reported around 10:00 pm Monday night. The Edgefield Fire Department responded to the call and had to cut the lock to the gate to gain entry to extinguish the burning truck. Firemen responding to the call said the truck was “rolling good” and would not wait for DOT workers to arrive with a key to the facility. The first unit to arrive was told to “cut the lock” and enter the property, other units soon followed. The fire destroyed the SC DOT dump truck and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire was said to be “suspicious in nature” according to preliminary reports from those at the scene. DOT officials were not available for comment due to the late hour and fire officials would not comment on the record. Return to Main Page
