"Project Normandy" announcement delayed, company identity remains a mystery web posted July 27, 2007 COUNTY - “Project Normandy”, the much-anticipated announcement of a new industry that is being courted by Edgefield County, was expected by early August. Edgefield County Administrator John Pettigrew Jr. said on Thursday that the wait would be extended. “Right now (the announcement) is on hold until November,” Mr. Pettigrew said. The delay is not due to other counties vying for the industry Mr. Pettigrew said, “We’re still the top choice”, but that “internal decisions having to be made” is the reason. The Edgefield County Council has held two readings of an ordinance that would gift around twenty acres in the county’s industrial park to the unnamed company if they agree to locate here. The first reading was held on April 4 and the second reading in May. The transfer of the deed will not take place until a third and final reading has been held. Edgefield County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece said that the final reading of the ordinance would be held until the company made the formal announcement and a commitment to the county. “We’ve been assured it is just internal problems they are dealing with,” Mr. Kneece said, “everything is fine”. Chairman Kneece said once the company announces the agreement it will mean at least a 16 million dollar investment in the county and the company will eventually lead to as many as 200 new jobs. “They are going to start with less than that, but it will end up being around 200 (jobs),” Mr. Kneece said. Chairman Kneece and Administrator Pettigrew both said that such delays were not unusual. For
