Back to school, tax free week-end come this week web posted July 31, 2006 COUNTY – It is time for local children to head back to school on August 3 and the trips to local stores to purchase the increasing amount of required school supplies is upon us. Although many complain that the first of August is far too soon to begin the school year, it is a reality students and parents have to deal with. To help alleviate to rising cost of educating our children the states of South Carolina and Georgia prove for a tax free weekend for school supplies, clothing, computers, and other essentials. The tax free weekend in South Carolina runs from August 4 through August 6. With our close proximity to Georgia, Edgefield County residents can take advantage of an extra tax-free day in Georgia, which begins on August 3 and runs through August 6. During the period clothing, clothing accessories, footwear, school supplies, computers, printers, printer supplies, computer software, lunchboxes, book bags, hats, scarves, hosiery, handbags, and, in some instances can include bath wash clothes, blankets, bed spreads, bed linens, sheet sets, comforter sets, bath towels, shower curtains, bath rugs and mats, pillows, and pillow cases being exempt from state and any local sales tax. In Georgia computers and computer accessories up to $1,500 per transaction, clothing and footwear up to $100 per item, and school supplies that cost $20 per item purchased during the period. The sales tax holiday is intended only for individuals and their personal use. For a complete list of required school visit this link For
