Edgefield County native claims to solve the
problems of dirt roads Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 1, 2005 Thomas
Settles,
53, of Atlanta and owner of a prominent paving company says he has
solved the problem that made growing up in Edgefield County on a dirt
road being an obstacle. His product, "Pave-Zyme", is said to keep dirt
roads passable after heavy rains. Something he said kept him from
school in Edgefield County in his youth.According to Associated Press reports his product is being tested on several Georgia roadways and could resolve a lot of issues presented to rural counties like Edgefield County, paving dirt roads. The new product is said to seal dirt roads for several years. With Edgefield County having so many dirt roads, and the school board dealing with impassable roads during the school year; Settles may have stumbled on to a solution that could be viable to the county. Paving most roads costs between $160,000 and $200,000 a mile. Mr. Settles says his product can offer a viable solution for just $60,000 to $100,000 a mile. Attempts to contact Mr. Settles have been unsuccessful at this writing and we will follow up with comments on the product from Mr. Settle’s company and county officials as to how this may be administered in our county during the testing period.
