Inoperable vehicles continued target of thefts
web
posted August 12, 2008
COUNTY – As scrap metal prices continue to
rise, so do the number of thefts of inoperable vehicles with two more
reported stolen in the past three days. A Trenton man reported a van on
his property was taken sometime late Thursday and another vehicle was
reported missing on Stephens Road on Sunday.
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigators are constantly tracking a
number of reported thefts of inoperable vehicles, but the most recent
theft includes items that could provide leads to the culprit.
The 1970 Ford Econoline van reported stolen on Thursday had two sets of
firemen’s “bunker gear” stored inside along with an assortment of
woodworking tools and “antique wood”.
The second vehicle, a 1977 Toyota, was reported stolen from the 1000
block of Stephens Road Sunday evening. In addition to the missing car,
over $500 in tools and a toolbox were also reported stolen.
Anyone with information regarding suspicious activity is asked to call
the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625.
