web posted August 25, 2005

ASHEVILLE, NC – Donnie Myers, Eleventh Circuit Solicitor, pleaded guilty to two charges in Buncombe County, NC last week. Mr. Myers was arrested on April 29 for being twice the legal limit for blood alcohol content while driving and having an open container in his county car.

At the time of his arrest Mr. Myers was tested twice for BAC and registered .14 and .13 according to police records. Mr. Myers did not inform Lexington County officials of the arrest in North Carolina when he returned from the conference.

After the story was broken Mr. Myers offered several excuses and explanations. His position changed last week when he told The State, “I was wrong, made a mistake, accepted responsibility and held myself accountable for my acts,” Myers said in a written statement. “I apologize for my actions and the publicity that followed. “I ask for your forgiveness and your continued friendship.”

According to reports Myers was sentenced to a 60 days in jail which was suspended to twelve months of unsupervised probation, $400 dollars in fines and court costs. In addition his driving privileges were suspended in North Carolina for thirty days in exchange for 24 hours of community service in Asheville Mr. Myers stated.
