Suspicious vehicle leads to drug arrests and wanted man

web posted August 31, 2010

COUNTY – A Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol late Friday night spotted a white minivan parked in the entrance of a business on the 1400 block of Edgefield Road that has been the scene of recent thefts and turned around to investigate the suspicious vehicle. That suspicion paid off, by the time the short investigation was over, the three occupants were arrested on various charges including possession of marijuana and narcotics.

When the deputy began gathering the information on the driver and the occupants an open container of alcohol was seen leading to an arrest and the subsequent discovery of the drugs. Additional deputies were called to the scene when it was discovered one of the occupants, Wade Valdez Rouse, 29, of Edgefield, was wanted on at least one outstanding drug arrest warrant.

Rouse has been charged with possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana second offense, manufacture or possession of drugs (3 counts), and manufacture or distribution of a cocaine based substance third offense. He remains in custody as of Monday night and bond information was not available at press time.

Also charged were Joyce Katline Derrick, 21, of Johnston and Don Robert Boyd, 26, of Trenton.

Ms. Derrick was charged with possession of marijuana and possession cocaine. She is still being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center. Mr. Boyd was released on bond on Monday for charges of possession of marijuana and having an open container.

No court dates were available.
