Traffic stops lead to four arrests on drug charges
web posted September 2, 2010
COUNTY – Sheriff’s Deputies on routine patrol have
arrested four individuals on drug charges stemming from two traffic
stops. The first came on Tuesday afternoon when a deputy noticed a car
with a shattered windshield driving on Columbia Road and made a simple
traffic stop on Norris Street in Edgefield.
The deputy informed the driver of the reason for the stop and issued
him a warning about the unsafe equipment infraction. Due to suspicious
actions by two of the occupants of the car the deputy asked if there
was anything in the car that he should now about. The driver reportedly
responded there was not and consented to a search of the vehicle which
turned up the discovery of a “green leafy substance” believe to be
marijuana.
All three occupants denied knowing anything about the drugs resulting
in their arrests. Charged in the stop were Stanley Ketchell McGee, 20;
Bernard Carl Bruyere, 45; and Mary Lee Bruyere. All three were booked
on misdemeanor charges of simple possession of marijuana 28 grams or
less.
Later in the evening a deputy on Mosley Drive near Bettis Academy
spotted a man driving on the roadway that the deputy knew was not
licensed to drive.
After stopping the driver, later identified as Kevin Forrest Woodward,
29, of Mosley Drive, he admitted he did not have a drivers license and
was arrested on the scene.
According to an available incident report, Woodward admitted he did not
have a license and that he was in possession of marijuana, which was
later seized. He was charged for driving under suspension and simple
possession of marijuana.
