Larcenies continue to increase
web
posted September 3, 2009
COUNTY – Just one week after Edgefield
County Sheriff Adell Dobey put out a call for citizens to be aware of
the increase in thefts from property, the totals on the amount
stolen
and the number of cases continues to increase. Being aware of your
property and strange vehicles or activity at neighboring property is
the fastest way to bring the thefts to an end. In the last few days
over $4,000 worth of property has been damaged or stolen.
On Tuesday a home on Ann Street in the Merriwether area reported $975
of yard equipment missing upon returning home. According to incident
reports, a Craftsmen mower, edger, blower, assorted yard tools, and
nine extension cords were missing.
Earlier in the day an Edwards Drive homeowner returned home after being
gone for less than two hours to find a window to the house broken out,
the back door damaged after someone attempted to pry it open, and a
Nintendo Wii game console and controllers taken. Total damage and loss
was listed at $850.
Saturday a Riverpointe Drive man reported returning to the property to
find a Troybuilt lawn tractor had been taken from a shed in the back of
the home. The tractor was valued at $2,500.
All three cases, in addition to other cases reported in the last week,
are being investigated.
Sheriff Dobey has asked that citizens pay special attention to
suspicious activity, vehicles, and persons in your community and to
call 911 or dispatch office numbers at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625.
