Merriwether
woman shot by Greenville Police
web
posted September 5, 2007
COUNTY – An
Edgefield County woman is dead
after being shot by a Greenville Police Officer on Friday. Sabrina
Parker, 35, of Merriwether, was shot by Greenville Police Officer
Russell Irvin when he responded to a call to investigate a
burglary. Cpl. Russell shot Mrs. Parker in her apartment on Stone
Avenue where she was residing after being released from a three-year
prison sentence she received in 2005 in Edgefield.
Mrs. Parker was arrested on July 10, 2005 for a burglary of a neighbor
on Springhaven Drive. She plead
guilty on October 12, 2005 and was sentenced to three years in
prison and three years probation.
After her release she is said to have been staying in the Greenville
area as a condition of her parole. That report is not confirmed by
EdgefieldDaily.com though it has been reported. Parker has a criminal
history that dates back as far as 1991 but there was never an
indication of weapons in any of her crimes. Her past conviction include
possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, public drunkenness,
shoplifting, driving with a suspended license and grand larceny in
Aiken and Edgefield County.
An autopsy on Saturday confirmed Mrs. Parker died from gunshot wounds
to the chest. A gun was reportedly found “near by” her body after the
shooting. Cpl. Irvin has been placed on administrative leave pending
the outcome of a SLED investigation into the shooting.
The neighbor reporting the burglary stated she heard the officer enter
Mrs. Parker’s apartment and twice demand Mrs. Parker “drop the gun”
before firing two shots.
