  Football Jamboree canceled due to gas shortages web posted September 26, 2008 COUNTY – The Saturday Football Jamboree set for today has been canceled. Edgefield County Recreation Director Nick Wates issued the following press release Friday afternoon. “The Youth Football Board and myself (Nick Wates) decided Friday to cancel our jamboree scheduled for tomorrow. We made the decision based on the gas shortage that we are experiencing around the area. The jamboree is a day with an opening ceremony and a 20 minute scrimmage for each team. We decided that it was in the best interest of all of the citizens involved that everyone could use the gas in more important ways than a football scrimmage. We will start our regular season games as scheduled on Monday night.” ©
