Burglaries Start to Rise this Week

web posted September 29, 2012

COUNTY – Between Wednesday and Friday at least three burglaries were reported in the southern portion of the county and an attempted burglary in the Johnston area that was thwarted by an observant neighbor.

A Geraldine Road woman called the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office to report coming home around 3:30 pm on Wednesday and found someone had entered the home and stole a flat screen TV valued at $300. According to the incident report, there was no evidence of forced entry into the home. The woman was able to provide the serial number B0250239541000 for the Sanyo DP6640 TV.

A Henry Lane woman in Johnston Thursday morning noticed a black male wearing a grey hoddie jacket and a white shirt was trying to force his way into the home and called 911. When the man noticed the woman on the phone with police he fled the scene on foot.

Johnston Police and Sheriff's Deputies converged on the area in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the suspect. The man never made entry into the home, a report states.

Two more burglaries were reported Friday afternoon. Details on those incidents are limited and will be followed up on in our Tuesday edition.

The first was a Merriwether man saying he left his home for about and hour and returned to find his home burglarized and a number of guns taken. Not long after, a nearby woman called to report returning home and finding a window broken out and waited on Deputies to respond before entering the home. It remains unknown what, if anything was stolen from the home.
