Gas thefts continue as prices fall

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted October 19, 2005

COUNTY – With the price of gasoline falling thefts of gas continue. Driving off without paying for gas increased as prices topped three dollars a gallon for a short time, but as prices have fallen more than sixty cents since then some still feel the need for free gas. Monday about noon a white female driving a dark blue Ford Focus pulled into Kent’s Korner and filled up with $32 of gas and drove away.

South Carolina state law states those who drive off without paying for gas lose their drivers license if caught and convicted. However, some other thieves get more creative and show just how low some individuals can go. Such is a report received stating that Monday afternoon when it was discovered the fuel line on a fifteen passenger Church Bus for Mt. Zion Baptist Church and drained a full talk of gas out.

Patrols were being stepped up in the area in hopes of preventing further incidents from happening. Many local gas stations are making people pay before pumping to stop drive offs as well.
