Public invited to review proposed instructional materials and textbooks

COUNTY The public is invited to review textbooks and instructional materials that have been proposed for use in South Carolina’s public schools.

The materials will be recommended to the State Board of Education for adoption on December 13 by the Instructional Materials Review Panels appointed by the Board. The materials are in the following subject areas:

AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION: Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Production Business Management, Agricultural Science/Technology, Aquaculture, Environmental and Natural Resources, Floriculture, Ornamental Horticulture, Forestry and Forest Products Harvesting, Lawn and Turf.

AP COMPUTER SCIENCE

BUSINESS/MARKETING – COMPUTER PROGRAMMING: Computer Programming 1,2

BUSINESS/MARKETING – COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY: Business and Marketing Internet Application, Integrated Business Applications, Introduction to Computer Technology, Desktop Publishing, E-Business, Multimedia, Web Design, Document Processing
   
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION: Building Construction (includes Carpentry), Electricity, Environmental Control Systems (Air Conditioning, Heating; Cooling and Refrigeration), Masonry, Plumbing.

COSMETOLOGY

DRIVER EDUCATION

GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

MANUFACTURING CLUSTER: Drafting – Architectural, Computer Aided, Mechanical, and Electronics – Communication, Computer, Core, Industrial, Industrial Manufacturing Technology; Machine Technology, Welding Technology.

MARKETING MAJOR: Fashion Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism, Marketing, Merchandising, Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

PRE-ENGINEERING
SCIENCE, K-5
SCIENCE, 6-8

TRANSPORTATION CLUSTER: Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Technology Small Engine Technology.

HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY: Introduction to Health Science Technology, Health Science Technology, sports Medicine.

The textbooks and instructional materials are on display at 26 colleges and universities throughout the state. The materials will be on display through November 8, and evaluation forms for citizens’ comments are available at each site. State Board of Education members will review those comments before a final decision is made on adopting the materials.
