Farmer looses $12,000 in livestock over cow shooting
web posted November 16, 2005

COUNTY – As EdgefieldDaily.com reported a man on the 300 block of Key Road called the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office about two cows that had been shot in a pasture over the weekend. According to just released police reports the man last checked on the cows around noon on Saturday. On Sunday he returned to find two of his cows shot dead. Both were said to have calves.

The cows, a Gelbauich breed, were valued at $6,000 each. Deputy Curtis Morris found one of the cows shot in the neck and the other cow shot in the shoulder, typical of a shot used to take down a deer. There was no motive for the crime and the area searched did not produce any shell casings and it was not revealed if any bullets were recovered from the animals.

The matter has been passed on to investigators and the South Carolina Wildlife Department was notified as well. If located the perpetrator(s) will face felony charges EdgefieldDaily.com was told. Attempts to reach the owner for comment were unsuccessful.
