NORTH AUGUSTA – An early morning shooting has left one man dead and a woman and a man wounded at the Huddle House parking lot located at the intersection of Highway 25 and I-20 in North Augusta. According to North Augusta Public Safety Director Lee Wetherington the man tried to carkjack the woman at the drive through of the Burger King restaurant and the woman refused to give up her car and drove away. The man opened fire and shot several rounds at the woman striking her in the upper back.

She drove next door to the Depot Service Station next door where she called for help. The man proceeded to the Huddle House on foot and confronted two men. Rev. Earl Carter and William Powell Jr. were both shot at that time. Mr. Powell, 61 of North Augusta, was killed at the scene. Mr. Carter was hit in the throat and was taken to MCG along with the 59 year old woman who has not been identified. Their conditions are unknown although Mr. Carter was stated to have been in surgery this morning.

Police say the man, described as a white male about 5 feet 10 inches tall with facial hair. Chief Wetherington stated if you spot the man do not approach him, "He has already killed one person, severely wounded two others and we considered him to be extremely dangerous." Anyone seeing the man is asked to call their local authorities.

After the man was unable to get one of the victims vehicle to start he reportedly ran over to the Bojangles and carjacked a woman’s car. She was unharmed in the attack. Authorities recovered her car later on in the morning.
