![]() Forged check scam continues around the county web posted December 5, 2006 COUNTY – The rash of several recent forgeries continued since Friday with at least two more incidents reported. The first was reported by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). A worker called the Sheriff’s Office to report that a white male tried to cash a check drawn on the SCDOT at the Northside BP Station. When the cashier was unable to cash the check the man dropped it on the floor and walked out. A second incident also reported on Friday shows a white male cashed a check at a Trenton business for $372.96 drawn on Midas Service Center, it came back as forged when presented to the bank listed. As in earlier reports the driver’s license provided came back to a woman in Charleston SC. The man is described as being a white male, around 40 to 45 years of age, 5’ 11” in height and weighing around 175 pounds. Police have reason to believe the man is from the Trenton area and police reports show several similar incidents in the county. The bogus driver’s license ended with the numbers 554, the rest of the number is being withheld due to privacy of the victimized woman’s identity. The cases are currently being investigated by the Johnston Police Department and the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office. Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said they were very close to identifying the suspect. Sheriff’s Investigators were retrieving video evidence Monday and were unavailable for comment on the case. For
