Pit Bulls reported in more attacks

web posted December 5, 2006

COUNTY – Pit bull dogs were responsible for two attacks this weekend, one resulting in the death of a family pet. The first call came in on Sunday morning reporting that two pit bulls had chased neighborhood children into their homes along the 1500 of Edgefield Road. The dogs were reported roaming the area unattended. When a deputy arrived in the area he was unable to locate the animals. A second call later in the day from Trenton reported a family dog dead from a suspected attack.

The second report showed a Laurel Heights Road man finding his dog dead from an apparent attack and the suspected Pit Bulls belonged to a man living on the 100 block of the Laurel Heights. When a deputy attempted to contact the dog’s owner the man’s mother told the deputy the dogs were pinned up in the basement and her son was going to “get rid of them, because they had been reported to have attacked other dogs on the road..”

All dogs are required to be fenced in, chained, or leashed in Edgefield County and local towns. Violations can result in fines and may also leave the offending dog’s owner open to civil litigation in the result of injury, loss, or other liabilities due to the dog’s actions.
