Stolen cars recovered over weekend

web posted December 28, 2006

COUNTY – Car thefts were not absent for the Christmas weekend with Richmond County Sheriff’s Office recovering a car stolen from Trenton on Friday and an Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputy recovering a car stolen from Dekalb County in Georgia on Sunday.

The first car was stolen from a Mockingbird Lane home in Trenton. It was later discovered in Augusta, Georgia at Wheeler Road and a frontage road. A family member went to recover the vehicle. Police do have a suspect in the case but an arrest has not been made.

The second car was found by a patrol deputy at a laundry mat in Trenton. The car was parked on the side of the building and the front passenger seat and the rear seat had been removed. There was also damage to the steering column. An initial check of the vehicle information did not show it as stolen. A later check revealed the car to be stolen from a Lithonia, Ga. Man.

The car was towed and stored for Georgia authorities. There are no known suspects in the case.
