Rash of car thefts reported over Christmas holiday
web
posted December 28, 2007
COUNTY – At least five vehicles were
reported stolen over the Christmas holiday period beginning Saturday,
December 22 and Wednesday December 26 and an arrest was made on Christmas day in a car
theft from October. The first report came in to the
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday night from a home on
Moton-Moore Road near McCormick.
The resident told deputies that she left her home around 9 pm and
returned shortly after 10 pm to find her white 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe
missing. Hours later the Sheriff’s Office was notified by the South
Carolina Highway Patrol saying that the vehicle had been found in
Abbeville and had been involved in a roll-over crash. The case is still
under investigation. The SUV was valued at $10,000.
On Christmas Eve a West Martintown Road resident called the Sheriff’s
Office to report that someone stole a white E-Z-Go golf cart with a
black dump body from the carport of the home located on the 1400 block.
The golf cart has an ACC sticker on the front and contains the name and
phone number of the owner under the seat. The theft is believed to have
taken place between Sunday night and Monday night. The vehicle is
valued at $4,000. The case is under investigation.
A Bettis Academy Extension resident called the Sheriff’s Office to
report a 1988 Ford Thunderbird stolen from his mother’s home. The man
told deputies that he located the car at a recycling center in North
Augusta but was unable to contact the company due to it being closed
for Christmas. The case was turned over to an investigator on Thursday
for follow-up. The car is valued at $900.
A McCrieght Road resident near Ridge Spring reported a 1995 Ford
Contour GL stolen from the home on Wednesday morning. The owner stated
the car would have had to be towed as the motor was non-working. The
car is valued at $800 and is also under investigation.
The reported thefts continued on Wednesday when a Plum Branch Road
resident near Edgefield arrived home to find his silver and black 1979
Chevrolet Silverado gone. The truck was not currently registered and
did not have a tag. The truck is valued at $1,500. The case was also
passed on to the Investigative Division of the Sheriff’s Office for
further investigation.
A Johnston resident was notified that a red 2003 Chevrolet Alero stolen
from his Edisto Street home in October was found in Aiken County. On
Christmas Day the owner was notified that Trelon V. James, of Hill
Street in Batesburg, was taken into custody and charged with the theft.
The car was valued at $7,300 and was listed as a grand larceny.
