Merriwether Family Wins Christmas Tree Contest, Will Donate Prize Money to Needy Family

web posted December 28, 2013

COUNTY The voting is over in the Christmas Tree contest that has run all week with voting ending Friday night. The winner is Selisa Cox, of Merriwether. As the voting got underway the total quickly began adding up and two contestants started taking the lead with close vote totals. By Friday morning, Mrs. Cox's tree jumped out to a 10 point lead and held on to win by 12 points.

When contacted about winning the contest Mrs. Cox sent in the following comment.

"I want to thank Edgefield Daily for promoting the contest and thank you to everyone that voted for my tree, all the trees were so beautiful! I just want to also let everyone know that the prize money ($100) will be donated to an area family in need. I have been blessed this year so I feel the need to pay it forward. Thank You Again. God Bless and Happy New Year, the Cox Family."

The Cox's tree took 42% of the vote with the other final contestants receiving 30%, 16% and 12% respectively.
