County fails to follow through on settlement of lawsuit over bonds
web posted December 29, 2005

COUNTY – The Edgefield County Council directed County Attorney John “Buzzy” Byrd Jr. to settle the lawsuit filed over an alleged improper vote for bonds by the county council supporting a Theater Project backed by Developer Bettis Rainsford rather than have it heard in the Court of Common Pleas in November. The settlement was reached between the parties and the papers required and the payment of the settlement has not been filed.

The opposing party said Mr. Byrd has repeatedly told him that “we need to get you a check,” but that check and the proper court filings have not been made EdgefieldDaily.com has learned.

Attempts to reach Mr. Byrd have been unsuccessful and County Administrator Wayne Adams refuses to return any call placed to his office by EdgefieldDaily.com.

The opposing party has stated he has contacted his attorney but has not heard back as to counter measures that may be available. EdgefieldDaily.com will make attempts to contact Mr. Byrd again on Thursday and will have follow-up reports as they become available.
