Deadly car crash ruled suicide Edgefielddaily.com web posted June 24, 2005 A deadly crash on Highway 25 Sunday night has been ruled a suicide by Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett. Johann Tobler, 54, of Spartanburg intentionally drove his mini-van into the path of an 18 wheeler in hopes of killing himself and his two young sons who were supposed to be returned to Mr. Tobler’s ex-wife by 6 pm Sunday night. Sources from the crash sight told Edgefield Daily on condition of anonymity that, “he said he wished they (he and the kids) all had died.” Tobler died shortly thereafter. It was also said Tobler had flammable liquids in the vehicle in hopes it would explode in the crash. The children were taken to MCG and were reported not to have serious injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured. Return to Main Page
