Dining Review Team

Our dining team visited the new Down South Subs for September’s dining section.

DINING REVIEW – Our dining team member entered Down South Subs at 6:57 p.m. and was given a menu, but chose to order from the extensive menu painted about the order counter.  The specials for the day were printed nicely on a reader board and ordered the soup special, which was an Italian Wedding Soup, consisting of round barley with spinach and meatballs.

In addition ordered was a turkey club 6" sandwich and requested "easy on the mayo."  The team member was directed to self serve condiment and drink center for the lemonade. The counter was exceptionally clean. The lemonade was some of the best ever!

After choosing a seat at one of the 7 tables the order was served within four minutes. While waiting customers are provided a large TV placed on the wall with current news. Both local newspapers had stands filled with current papers there as well.

The Italian Wedding Soup was steaming hot and quite delicious. The sandwich was stacked high on fresh wheat bread with turkey, lettuce, tomato, and onions, and sure enough, they went easy on the mayo. The whole thing was drizzled with a basil oil and vinegar, plus a crisp, cold dill pickle strip added to the fare. It was perfect. On a previous visit the egg salad sandwich was chosen and was very fresh and delicious.

Down South Subs has a full menu of cold and hot subs and sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads, with several deli sides. They provide a “kid's menu” and an extensive list of beverages, including espresso, cappuccinos and lattes, with an assortment of chips.

The restaurant was clean including the restrooms. There is an overall "cheery" atmosphere to the restaurant. Down South Subs is making an effort to be a real part of the community with a local artist's print of scenes of Edgefield on the wall and local advertising listed on the menu.

Down South Subs has starting staying open on Friday nights until 11:30 p.m. for high school home football games. They also provide "to go" boxes if you're traveling out of town for a game.

The team member exited at 7:25 p.m. and the total bill was $7.14.  All the employees were very friendly.
