You Put What in What, Why!

Some of the most amazing innovations have come to us not as new or unique but rather, as an addition to something that already existed. By simply adding an element to an existing item, it can be presented as something that seems remarkably new and unique.  It is that one addition that makes all the difference. It has the ability to totally recreate an existing item so that it takes on new meaning and importance. Let me illustrate.

I was scanning the channels when a commercial caught my attention. This company was proudly announcing the reinvention of an old standby, the toothbrush. And what made this toothbrush so superior to the bristle-worn one in my bathroom? They had added a computer to their toothbrush! An onboard computer in a toothbrush! It tells you when to replace the bristles and I guess how long to brush your teeth. Wow! What will they think of next in the unending war on tooth decay.

To further illustrate my point, take an old-fashioned map and add a satellite and a computer. You get GPS! A system whereby you never have to worry about getting lost again. And men, we never have to argue with our wives about stopping and asking for directions again. (Okay, maybe it does take some of the fun out of driving.) Certain navigational devices allow you to contact help if needed and can even unlock your doors should you get locked out of or in your car.

And then, there is the internet. A worldwide library at our fingertips and all that was added was a computer and a server. Just think about the wealth of knowledge and information you have at your command through the internet. Sure, there are those who exploit and prey upon the weaknesses of others using this innovation. But look at all the things we gain by having the ability to search and know.

Now, take the greatest of all creations, you, and add something to it. No, I’m not talking about adding a computer but rather, something so incredibly beyond a simple computer that your life is actually recreated and made new. The Bible has a great way of explaining this in II Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

In order to be “in Christ,” He has to be in you. And when you allow this to happen, you will find that life will truly be reinvented simply because you added this One element to who you are. The Lord will make your life just like the computerized toothbrush. He will enable you to clean out all the things in your life that are decaying the love and joy you were created to experience.

He will be your GPS. You will never have to worry about being lost in life again. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and He loves to share the way with His children. It is not God’s will that we stumble through life in search of meaning and direction. He wants us to know that He has a God-designed plan for our lives that brings purpose and a sense of fulfillment to who we are. He provides a constant connection that can deliver help and assistance in a moment’s notice. True confidence comes by knowing we are not traveling through life alone and undirected. It always amazes me that we have a God who is that individually interested in us.

He will be your internet. Life is confusing and overwhelming. A source of knowledge and wisdom is a necessity for victorious living. James 1:5 tells us that God does desire to share His wisdom with us: “but if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God; who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” Think about the possibilities for your life if you utilized the mind of God when making decisions or seeking direction.

In order for you to have these wonderful recreating additions in your life, you must have something new in your life. And in order for that to happen, you must place your life in someone new. I am not asking you to add something to your life but rather, Someone. It will make all the difference. Maybe you have made this addition but have neglected using Him. Go ahead and begin. It is exactly what He wants.
