Fire destroys truck at Water Department web posted January 6, 2009  EDGEFIELD – An
Edgefield man paying his
water bill on Monday morning got a lot more water than he anticipated
after he began leaving the Water Authority building on Waterworks Road.
A fire truck full in fact. Just as he began backing out of the parking
place around noon his Ford F150 pickup truck burst into flames.The Edgefield Fire Department arrived moments later to find flames rolling out from under the hood and beginning to spread to the cab of the truck. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames under the hood and then opened the doors and began soaking the interior and the dash to wet down any remaining hot spots.  It is believed a
“backfire” in the carburetor ignited the fire.The truck received heavy damage in the fire and due to the age of the truck was considered to be a total loss. The truck was later towed from the scene. © Copyright 2009
