Log Creek Timber Co. Fire Brings Three Fire Departments

web posted January 6, 2014

EDGEFIELD Edgefield Firefighters were called to a fire at the Log Creek Timber Company on the 800 block of Columbia Road just before 7 pm Sunday. First reports from the scene stated one of the large buildings fully engulfed in flames prompting Johnston and Trenton Fire Departments being called to the scene. Three other fire departments were placed on "standby".

As firefighters fought the fire, tankers were used to transport water using at least two nearby fire hydrants on the bypass and Highway 23 to refill their tanks.

According to information, things inside the building were reported "blowing up" as crews arrived on the scene. At this writing, what type of equipment or fuels stored in the building were unknown.

The fire was brought under control around 7:45 pm. Damage was said to have been extensive. Fire fighters were starting to pull the metal siding from the building to gain better access to the smoldering remains.

Crews remained on the scene until 9 pm putting out hot spots.

No value on the amount of damage was available.
