Edgefield Police also investigating prolific check forgery suspect

web posted January 12, 2007

EDGEFIELD – Edgefield Police are now working on a case that Johnston Police and the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is working, forged checks. The man is using a fake driver’s license using the name of Mike Cook and an address in Trenton. However, the license number comes back to a woman in Charleston and there is no such address as listed on the driver’s license in Trenton. The man cashed the most recent check at an Edgefield grocery store.

The check was drawn on the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and was made out for over $300. It is believed the man is using a computer to print the forged checks, which look official.

The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office released the photo used above in December in a related story.

If you recognize the man in the photograph you are asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. You do not need to reveal your identity to give information.

Editor's note: The suspect is using the name of Mike Cook. There is a Michael (Mike) Cook from Trenton who is not a suspect in the case. The name, driver's license, and all other information the man gives is false. Law Enforcement is trying to identify the suspect in an effort to make an arrest.
