Coroner releases names of teens killed in  crash Sunday night
web posted January 17, 2006

EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett released the names of the two teens killed in a tragic one-car crash on Big Oak Drive on Sunday night. Mr. Burnett said Monday morning that the teens, ages 15 and 18, were both from North Augusta.

The driver was identified as Robert Edward Kasten, 15, of Five Notch Road. The passenger was 18 year old Robert James Kotz, of the 900 block of Campbelton Drive, North Augusta. The families were making arrangements for funerals on Monday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has not released the finding of their investigation at this time.

Mr. Kasten was said to be driving down Big Oak Drive at a high rate of speed when, for some reason, he lost control of the car and it slid sideways into the two large trees next to each other.

The deaths are the first for Edgefield County in 2006.
