Edgefield Police Seek Hit and Run Driver from Parking Lot Incident

web posted January 21, 2014

EDGEFIELD Edgefield Police are seeking warrants on a 24-year-old Edgefield man after he was identified as the driver of a hit an run collision at an Augusta Road grocery store this weekend. A woman called to report walking out of the store to find her car had been hit and damaged. Two store employees stated they saw the man hit the car and then drive away.

After viewing video surveillance footage, the man was seen parking, going into the store and then backing into the woman's 1998 Ford Explorer and driving away. He was identified by the video.

An officer contacted the suspect who, according to an incident report, admitted he hit the car and left the scene because his driver's license was suspended and the car he was driving did not have insurance. He told the officer that he would turn himself in for the charges.

As of Monday no warrants had been issued in the case due to the holiday.

Listed charges included hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving under suspension. Additional charges may be pending.

Damages to the car are estimated to be $1,000.
