Anne Geddes a champion for rural health at home and abroad
web
posted January 28, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Anne
Geddes has a vision that
reaches across continents and even oceans, As a nurse practitioner and
a trained medical professional, she has traveled many times around the
world, both with the U.S. Army and other organizations, providing care
(and knowledge) in the advancement of better rural health. Still, her
attention is also focused on things right here at home.
Her local work started in 1996 in the Edgefield County Hospital
emergency room and continued until around six months ago. Circumstances
have brought her back into the area as the nurse practitioner at the
Peachtree Medical Center, working again with her good friend and
colleague - Dr. Beth Gordineer.
It's a relationship (both business and personal) Geddes is only to
happy to continue.
"We are great friends," Geddes said of Dr. Gordineer. "Our working
together now is mutually beneficial. She needed a nurse practitioner
and I needed a project (the revival of the Ridge Spring Rural Health
Clinic) while I am working on my doctorate. Beth and I have talked
about working together (in one office) for 10 years and it's finally
happening. We're a good team. It's great."
Dr. Beth echoes those sentiments.
"Anne and I have worked together for over 12 years and I am excited at
the opportunity to work with her again," said Dr. Beth Gordineer. "She
is a very good nurse practitioner and I hope the community will welcome
her to our practice."
Geddes attended Vanderbilt University, where she was a three-sport
athlete.
"I am a big believer in physical fitness," she said. "I also compete in
marathons."
She is married, to husband Jim, and the couple have a daughter, Ellen,
who is currently attending Presbyterian College. They also have a
greyhound dog named Carson.
Her passion for rural health remains a driving force in her life, as
she is determined to continue making a difference in people's lives -
be it in Edgefield, Ridge Spring or even Masaii in Tanzania.
"I'd like to go other places and teach the people how to care for
themselves."
