Edgefield man earns Here's Your Card award

web posted January 30, 2007

EDGEFIELD – The old saying goes if you want to go to jail officers will be happy to oblige you. Such was the case in Edgefield early Saturday morning. Just after midnight an officer on routine patrol was sitting at the red light on the town square when he heard someone yell. When he looked over a man was waving his hands and walked over to the patrol car and tried to get in the back seat.

The officer told the man to get out of the patrol car and then spoke with him about what he was doing. The man said he wanted a ride to Horseshoe Road  because he wanted to go home. The officer asked why and the man reportedly said he could not be out in public because he was drunk.

The officer asked the man how much he had to drink and was told three, thirty-two ounce bottles of beer. So the officer placed the man in the patrol car after arresting him for public drunk. Rather than going home, Willie Paul Thomas, 28, of Edgefield was taken to the Edgefield County Detention Center and booked into custody.

Mr. Thomas is awarded the infamous Here’s Your Card from EdgefieldDaily.com
