Cousin thwarts theft
web
posted February 3, 2009
EDGEFIELD – A theft at a home on the 600
block of Columbia Road was thwarted when a family member noticed some
suspicious activity at his cousin’s home. The Edgefield man called to
report that someone was stealing a paint sprayer from the home and then
drove to the location and confronted the suspect. A move not widely
encouraged by law enforcement. As he approached the suspect jumped into
a waiting truck and sped away with the lights off, reports state.
The man saw a black male between the ages of 20 and 30 years of age
rolling a $1,400 Ultra paint sprayer away from the home to the edge of
the road. As he approached the man jumped into the passenger side of a
black or dark colored Chevrolet Silverado single cab truck and they
sped away leaving the paint sprayer behind.
The cousin returned the equipment to the home and met with deputies and
the owner.
The case has been turned over for further investigation. Anyone with
information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or
803-278-1625. No further details were released.
